Celebrate Christmas with Lantern Tours and
Special Holiday Classes at Sauder Village
Archbold (OH), November 5, 2007 - The Christmas season is a time of gathering with family and friends to celebrate old traditions and create new ones. “Holiday Lantern Tours,” a popular program at Sauder Village, invite guests to step back in time to visit a turn-of-the-century Christmas in Northwest Ohio. Through this by-reservation-only program, guests will hear stories of the past and make memories for the future as they experience holiday celebrations of yesteryear.
On Saturday, November 24, December 1 and 8, the flicker of a candle-lit lantern will light the way as a costumed interpreter takes small groups on a journey back in time with visits to the 1910 Homestead, the District 16 Schoolhouse and St. Mark’s Church. Along the way, guests will be invited to experience the holiday customs and celebrations in Northwest Ohio in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Participants will hear stories and “meet” people from the past as part of the special experience. Because this is a personalized tour, guests will be encouraged to ask questions and interact with the guide, making each session a truly unique experience. At the Village church, guests will join in a hymn sing and receive a special gift appropriate to the late 1800s.
Again this year, children will children have an opportunity to help scrub clothes in the 1910 Homestead and make decorations for the District 16 Schoolhouse. While this is a family oriented program, the tours may be too long for children under six years old to enjoy.
“The combination of the personalized tour, engaging holiday stories from the past, and the magical experience of visiting the village by candlelight make for a truly unique way to experience Sauder Village,” says Kim Krieger, director of marketing. “The lantern tours are a great opportunity to take time out from a busy season ahead to relax and share in the Christmas traditions of long ago.”
Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for this special program. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4.00 for students ages 6-16. Special group and Village Membership rates are available for this holiday program. The Holiday Lantern Tours last roughly 70 minutes and will be repeated every half hour from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. and the retail shops will be open until 8:00. For more details or to register for the Holiday Lantern Tours, please call Historic Sauder Village at 1.800.590.9755 or visit www.saudervillage.org
