Dear Quilting Friends,
For those of you who haven’t visited us in person lately, you need to stop in and see our new image! GloraBelle and I spent a couple of days moving walls and displays and we’re loving the more open and spacious look of the shop. It should be much less congested for high traffic events like shop hops and quilt show as well as giving a much better view of our volunteer quilters hard at work. Let us know what you think the next time you stop in the shop.
Quilt Show 2012
Speaking of high traffic events, plans for the annual Quilt Show are well underway. In fact, if you are hoping to enter a quilt in the show, now is the time to register. We already have 300 registrations and more arriving daily, so take advantage of our easy online registration and register in just minutes. You will receive an e-mail confirmation so that you can rest assured that your registration is complete.
Workshops with Karen Kay Buckley are also filling, so be sure to check out the options online and register for the class or classes of your choice. There is a nice variety of workshops to choose from this year including hand appliqué, machine appliqué, and paper piecing. Click here for Workshop Descriptions.
As always, we expect the Sauder Village Quilt Show to be one of the highlights of our year and we hope you will mark your calendars to join us on May 1-6 for a fun and amazing experience.

Important Update-- Sign Up Now for the Shop Hop Bus!
Threads of Tradition is again sponsoring a bus trip for the OH-MI Shop Hop on Saturday March 24. In order to run the bus, we need to know we have at least 25 people committed to taking the trip. We currently have 11 quilters who are eagerly anticipating a carefree day away on the bus so we need you to stop in or call us to register as soon as possible for this fun experience. Take the bus and we will make sure that you get to all eight shops and have plenty of time to relax and shop. Cost for the bus trip is $75.00 per person and includes your passport and lunch. Leave the driving up to the professionals and make the most of your day away!
Our March 2-4 retreat is full, but I want to give you a heads up about registering for the October 5-7, 2012 retreat. Those attending the March retreat will have the opportunity to register during the weekend, but anyone who wants to be sure to secure a spot at the October event may do so online beginning at 8:00 am on Friday March 2. Retreats fill quickly and in the first round of registrations we can only take 70 quilters. After the first 70 registrations we will add the remaining names to the waiting list. Once we know that the first 70 quilters all have hotel lodging, we will confirm more registrations until we have all the hotel rooms filled.
Due to the popularity of our quilting retreats, we have decided to add a third weekend to our retreat schedule. This new retreat is scheduled for January 18-20, 2013. Registration for the January retreat will open online at 10:00 am on June 1st. Hopefully we will be able to include more quilters who haven’t been able to come in the spring or fall and also give a third annual opportunity to those who have enjoyed attending in the past. We hope to see you in March, October and/or January!

Books and Patterns Stimulate Creativity
This month I’m excited to introduce two new pattern companies that feature fresh ideas and we hope to see many more patterns from them in the future. Currently we have three new patterns from It’s Sew Emma--Debonaire, Rooftop Orchard and Garnets and Rubies are three distinctively different yet charming designs.
We are also looking for more great patterns from the imaginatively named company Cluck Cluck Sew. The first of their designs that we are carrying is Seville, a fat quarter quilt for experienced beginners.
Jo Morton is well known to quilters who love reproduction fabric and her new book Prairie Flowers Encore will not disappoint her many fans. This book offers seven projects using 24 flower blocks. For the “encore” part of the book, Jo started by making all 24 blocks and used 20 of them in a medallion style quilt and the remaining 4 in the small quilt that became version #5. This book provides plenty of options and it’s up to you to choose which blocks to make and how you’re going to use them. Don’t you love choices? Enjoy!
At Last! A book of truly attractive T-Shirt quilts. With T-Shirt Quilts Made Easy you will learn how to stabilize T-shirts for a neat, finished look and to adjust any size T-shirt design to fit your quilt plan. Sewing curves and circles is as easy as straight seams on T-shirt fabric. Use the easy planning guides, cut block charts and block set guides for super easy designing and sewing. Ten projects are included in the book plus a gallery full of inspirational T-shirt quilts.
Vanessa Christenson of V and CO will show you how to Make It Sew Modern. Now you can add new dimension and texture to your life even if you’re just learning to sew. This exciting collection of fashion and home-décor patterns shows you how. Discover more than 20 simple sewing ideas, including eye-catching quilts, pillow, scarves, purses, and an assortment of clever embellishments. Create three-dimensional flowers, raw-edge ruffles, tasteful tucks and pleats and more. Sew easy patterns and express yourself with unique designs that are just your style. Fun to sew, and sew easy!
It’s time for new fun with an old favorite—crayons! Using the new Melt-n-Blend technique in Creative Quilts from your Crayon Box, anyone can create beautiful appliqué designs with a dimensional, hand-painted look that brings quilts to life. Learn to tint and shade luscious fruits, gorgeous blossoms and more—using crayons, colored pencils and markers. Make one-of-a-kind appliqué designs that can be used in any project—simply fuse them into place.
Fabric, Ahhh, Fabric
Although this newsletter is getting long, I can’t leave you without giving you some new fabric to drool over! These are the latest arrivals and we are working on quilt samples from some of them; but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves—Enjoy!
At Threads of Tradition we are looking forward to a couple of busy weekends in March with the OH-MI Shop Hop and Spring Retreat. We are looking forward to seeing everyone having fun again and enjoying their passion for quilting. We hope to see you at one or both of these events or stop in to visit us whenever it suits your schedule.
