Dear Quilting Friends,
Summer is here, along with all the fun
outdoor activities and family vacation times. We look forward to
these good times and enjoy remembering special moments all year
long. Have you ever considered the possibility of making a photo
memory quilt to commemorate a special vacation or a special
person in your life? Or how about stitching a T-shirt quilt to
showcase special events, talents or interests of a family member
or friend? Tuesday July 14 –Saturday July 18 Sauder Village is
planning a week dedicated to Preserving Your Memories.
Demonstrations on scrapbooking, both digital and otherwise,
blogging, preserving your family heirlooms, and genealogy will
be available throughout the week at various times.
Threads
of Tradition will be focusing our demonstrations on photo
memory quilts and T-shirt quilts. On both Thursday and
Saturday, at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm Carolyn Griffin from Checker
Distributors will be demonstrating techniques and
products
that will make stitching these quilts a joy no matter what your
skill level. Carolyn knows her products well and is very good at
explaining how to use them effectively. Over the years we have
found that she is always full of creative ideas so I am sure you
will enjoy her presentation and learn some helpful hints for
making your own memory quilt.
If you can’t make it to the Village on either Thursday or
Saturday, stop in the shop on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday and
we will have a special display of products used in memory
quilts. If you have questions about how to go about making these
special quilts, ask any quilt shop sales associate and they will
be happy to explain the basics of either technique to you.
To help you get started on your memory quilt, during the
Preserving Our Memories event, we are offering a 20% discount
on all books, patterns, notions and rulers related to photo
memory quilts and T-shirt quilts.
Visit us at
the Kaleidoscope Quilt Show!
The
same weekend that we are Preserving Our Memories at the Village,
we will also be displaying our latest quilts and other products
at a vendor’s booth at Lourdes College in Sylvania as part of
the Kaleidoscope Quilt Show. This bi-annual show, scheduled for
Friday and Saturday July 17-18, is available to the community
due to the efforts of the Glass City Quilt Commission whose
volunteers coordinate all the details involved in an event of
this magnitude. Glora Belle will be providing customer service
in our booth on Friday and I will be there on Saturday. Stop by
to say hi and see what we have to offer. We’ve been busy
stitching up some new ideas!

Simple Summer Projects
Sewing hours are sometimes limited in the summer months, so we
have been working on project ideas that stitch up quickly, but
make a big impression. We have been having lots of fun sewing
table runners from a variety of printed border fabrics using the
Easy Striped Table runners pattern from The Quilt
Company. It’s so much fun to see how they turn out, that we are
tempted to sew one from every border print in the shop!
Another
quick-to-sew idea that everyone loves to receive is themed
pillowcases. We have selected many different combinations of
fabrics for pillowcase kits for everyone from toddlers to
senior citizens—everything from Thomas the Train and firemen to
beautiful florals all make wonderful, pillowcases that reflect
the personality and interests of the owner.
Do
you remember the Little Golden books that we read to our
children and grandchildren? Quilting Treasures is printing some
of the most popular classics as cloth story books. At this
point, we have the Poky Little Puppy in stock along with
coordinating fabrics of the Poky Puppy and fabric that is
patterned after the inside covers of the books.

Glora
Belle and I are both working on making our Grommet
Grab Bags—a new pattern from Indygo Junction that sports
four stylish grommets on each side. This chic shoulder hand bag
offers plenty of room and several interior pocket spaces.
The Daily Spice Halter apron by Heather Bailey looks so
good on our mannequin that someone asks to purchase our sample
almost every day!
New Popular Magazine
The latest addition to our selection of magazines really isn’t a
quilting magazine even though it does contain some articles
about quilting and other crafts. Mary Jane’s Farm is an
everyday organic lifestyle magazine that features lots of
interesting articles on gardening, quilting and crafting. The
bi-monthly issues have been flying out of the store, proving
that quilters have lots of other passions as well!
Inspiring Books
All those bundles of 5” and 10” squares and fat quarters are
irresistible, so don’t resist! Invite them to dance and play
their way across your quilts in delightful Four Patch blocks. In
the new book Four Patch Frolic learn a simple technique
for these versatile blocks and let the fun begin!
The
13 lively new Dresden Plate quilts in Thoroughly Modern
Dresden serve up a visual feast of contemporary colors and
clever designs for all skill levels. Change the look of your
quilts with lots of variation on the basic Dresden Plate block
and settings. Use breakthrough piecing techniques to put
together a whole quilt of perfect blocks in a day. The book
includes a complete set of paper templates for successful
cutting, pressing, and placement. Also available is the
companion fast2cut Dresden Plate template which speeds up your
cutting on any Dresden Plate up to 24”.
Welcome
that new baby home with over 50 baby quilts and accessories to
stitch in Quilting for Baby. The first quilt that many of
us made was a baby quilt, and through the years, we continue to
make baby quilts for our family and friends. Soft quilts and
babies just seem to go together. This collection of over 50 baby
quilts and accessories will provide you with an abundance of
inspiration for your next project and as you stitch something
for baby, we know that every stitch will be filled with love for
that precious little one.

That about wraps it up for this month. I hope you are enjoying
the beautiful summer weather and soaking the sunshine into your
soul to take out and savor next winter! Keep your hands busy
stitching up the love that is in your heart!
Hope to see you soon,
Linda
