Dear Quilting Friends,

I’m taking advantage of a rare quiet morning at the shop to write to you. Outside, the skies look heavy and gray, but a little snow is falling and I am finally getting in the holiday mood! I hope all your preparations for celebrating the season are brightening your days and cheering your hearts with the good news of Christmas.

The staff at Threads of Tradition certainly had our days brightened when we took off for our annual Christmas outing in mid November. We usually go for only one day, but this time we took an entire weekend to relax and sew at Stitchin by the Lake, a special retreat cottage with great food, beautiful surroundings, gracious hosts and wonderful accommodations. The spacious sewing room is well lit and warmed by a wood burning stove for a cozy atmosphere as you gaze out the large window overlooking Lake Ogemaw near West Branch Michigan. Groups of 4-6 are welcome to book the cottage for a weekend and then not worry about another thing except which quilting project to work on next! That decision was easy for us - together we pieced the progressive quilt for the 2008 OH-MI Shop Hop and then we all worked on our personal lists of gifts we hope to have finished by Christmas.

If you are looking for a great get-away weekend with your quilting friends, we would highly recommend Stitchin by the Lake. More information is available on their website  www.stitchin-by-the-lake.com. If you decide to visit them, be sure to tell Jan and Jan "hi" from all of us at Threads of Tradition!

OH-MI Shop Hop

I mentioned that we tested the progressive quilt pattern for the OH-MI Shop Hop on our retreat. I think this is one of the best quilts Kathy has ever designed for this event. Twelve sampler star blocks combined with squares and half square triangles make a stunning, yet simple to sew setting for this bed-sized quilt. The quilt is only one of many reasons to purchase your passport now for the 2008 shop hop. The Mardi Gras theme promises to be a lot of fun and two new shops will be included, for a total of eight shops. For a list of the included shops and their  locations please visit our website at www.saudervillage.org/Hospitality/shophop.asp. Each shop will be demonstrating a different tool or technique at scheduled times throughout the days and of course, there will be special sales for “hoppers” only. Passports can be purchased at any one of the participating shops and the first 400 will receive a large tote bag especially printed for this occasion. I hope you plan to join us on February 20-23!

New Gift Ideas

Expected to arrive in December, hopefully in time for Christmas, are two new “gotta have” gadgets for all the sewers on your Christmas gift list. Dream World’s latest invention is a bendable, bright, pure white light that snaps into an adhesive bracket on your sewing machine so you can adjust the light exactly where you want it, without shadows and dark spots. The quality metal light housing, flexible arm and the 100,000 light hours of this energy efficient LED light make it a good buy at $49.95.

The Sidewinder bobbin winder from Wrights is the hottest selling new gadget that we have seen in a long time. With this handy little machine you will never have to unthread your sewing machine to wind a bobbin ever again! That alone makes it worth its price of $29.95. We have sold everything we had on hand but have 10 more scheduled for delivery in December. If you want to be sure to have first chance of having them in time for gift-giving (or under your own tree) we are taking orders and will save one for the first ten people who contact us. We can either ship them as soon as they arrive or call you to pick yours up in the shop.

New Arrivals from Quilt Market

Special finds from Quilt Market arrive almost every day. The most recent fabrics include selections from Amy Butler, Two Young Street by Prints Charming, Full Sun by Maywood, Rosie the Quilter by Andover and many reproductions including Williamsburg from Andover.
