Historic Village Happenings...
Since the Village opened in 1976, guests from around the world have
enjoyed sitting in our Village Church to sing hymns accompanied by
the beautiful music from our historic reed organ. Built in the early
1900s, this reed organ was originally used in St. Paul's Lutheran
Church in Pettisville, OH. This winter, Don Glasgow and Junior
Historian Jonah Stiriz are working together to restore this organ
thanks to the generosity of donors who have contributed to this
restoration project. An expert in organ restoration, Don has been
sharing his experience with Jonah and together they have rebuilt six
organs over the past year-and-a-half. While our reed organ will look
the same when it returns in the spring, it will play like a new
organ. Be sure to stop by this season and hear the new sounds of
music in this historic church.

Taste of the Past... Monday, June 23, 2008
“It is hard to beat great food, great conversation and great
fellowship.”
“We’re looking forward to the next dinner!”
These were just a few of the many compliments we heard following our
first ever “Taste of the Past” Historic Dinner at Sauder Village in
February. Featuring recipes from the Lauber Family, the evening was
filled with memories old and new. If you missed this dinner, don’t
worry. We are offering another one in June to tie into our Pioneer
Family Weekend!
We invite you to our second “Taste of the Past” dinner Monday, June
23, at 6:00 PM. This time we will feature a picnic/threshers dinner
theme and plan to have the meal outside in the Village Green.
Featuring historic recipes, information and fun, we hope you will
plan on extending your stay with us and join us for this evening.
Space is limited. The cost is $35.00/$30.00 for members and includes
the multi-course picnic and other surprises.

Shop Talk... Have you ever
wondered who is the one responsible for the vast array of unique
and quality merchandise available in the many retail shops at
Sauder Village? For the past 10 years, Leslie Hartman has served
as the Retail Manager / Buyer for Sauder Village. In addition to
her wealth of retail experience, Leslie has also helped to make
our retail shops known on a national level through her involvement
in the Museum Store Association. An international organization,
MSA helps advance the success of cultural commerce by helping
retail professionals better serve their own organizations and the
public. We are pleased to announce that Leslie Hartman has been
elected to serve as Second Vice President of MSA for 2008-2009 and
will eventually move into the role of President of this
association that serves nearly 1,650 institutions around the
world. This is a true vote of confidence for Leslie and our retail
shops here at Historic Sauder Village.
