Customized Educational Programs... at Historic Sauder Village

Are you a teacher looking to compliment a field trip or social studies curriculum that brings the past alive in your classroom? We can create a program for your students on-site or in your classroom. Choose one of the following programs. Don't see what you are looking for? Call us and let us customize something just for you! Programs are based on availability. We also offer customized programs for adults.

Note: These programs can be done either with a Village tour or by themselves. The price listed is for the program ONLY... the Village admission would be on top of this charge. All of these programs, unless otherwise noted, can be offered when the Village is both open or closed.

One-Room School*
Cost $6.50 per student (includes supplies)
Time 1 – 2 hours (depending on group schedule)
Location District 16 School
Class Size Minimum 10  – Maximum 25
Ages 1st – 4th grades is best

Join our costumed teacher as you learn the three r's during this step-back-in-time. Students will do lessons, make copybooks, write on slates and do a spelling bee. Children will leave with a copybook, slate, slate pencil and other papers.

Rent the One-Room School
Cost $45.00 for up to 2 hours
Time 1 – 2 hours depending on schedule
We allow teachers to use our District 16 School to do their own program. This involves no staff or supplies on our part... just the building. The teacher can use the space, desks, and chalkboard for their own lesson plans. In season, the group should arrive before the Village opens to the public (any time after 8:30 AM) and can use the building no later than 10:30 AM in the morning during weekdays, OR anytime after 1:30 PM in the afternoon until we close.

The Story of Quilts*
Cost $3.00 per student
Time 45 – 60 minutes
Class Size Minimum 10 – Maximum 25
Ages Pre-K – 3rd grades
In this hour, children will hear a story about a quilt, learn about how quilt patterns were made using inspiration from things around them and get a chance to make a paper friendship quilt to take back to their classroom.

Recording Your Personal History*
Cost $3.00 per person
Time 45 – 90 minutes (depending on group schedule)
Class Size Minimum 15 – Maximum 50
Ages 4th grade and up
This program explores the importance of your own history, your experiences and how this fits into the history of America. We will look at how history changes over time and the importance of recording your own story. We will look at ways to preserve your artifacts, photos and work to share that information with others. Note... This program is also good for multi-generational groups of students and adults.

Pre-School Tour... Farm and Little Pioneers Homestead
Cost $3.50 per student (Can add a buggy ride for $2.00)

Ages Pre-K – Kindergarten
This gives younger student groups a bite-sized taste of Historic Sauder Village. They get to tour the 1910 Homestead and see the farmhouse, barnyard with animals and gardens and then have a chance to play and learn in our newest addition.... Little Pioneers Homestead - a "please touch" area created especially for our youngest guests. They can add a buggy ride for $2.00 more. Note... With this option, they tour the 1910 Homestead and Little Pioneers Homestead ONLY. This program does not include going to any other buildings including the ice cream shop or train!

Natives & Newcomers

Location Natives & Newcomers Exhibit
Class Size Minimum 10 – Maximum 40
Ages 3rd – 6th grades
See the Natives & Newcomers exhibit up close. Hear the stories of the early residents of Northwest Ohio. Step inside the wigwams and shelter houses. Learn about the fur trade and have a chance to 'trade' furs and 'stock up' for the journey west.

My Day Program
Cost $12.50 per student (includes supplies, No Village Admission)
Time 4 hours
Location Historic Village
Class Size Minimum 20 – Maximum 150
Ages 1st – 5th grades
Please Note... This program is only offered when the Historic Village is closed. This can be on Mondays anytime during the open season or after the Historic Village closes in October until Thanksgiving and then again in late March until the Village opens for the next season in April.
This in-depth step-back-in-history allows children to experience a typical day for children in 1910. They get to go to school in the one-room school; do chores with the Farmer; learn about Native Americans and build a log cabin and visit the historic homes to make butter, beat rugs and more. Children are encouraged to dress in costumes. There will be a break for lunch scheduled (students provide their own lunch).
Traveling My Day Program... We offer a traveling version of this program by bringing a wigwam and costumed guide to present this program at your site.

History's Mystery*

Location Meeting room or space with tables
Class Size Minimum 10 – Maximum 25
Ages 3rd – 7th grades
Learn to look at history as a mystery. History detectives will learn how curators use clues from artifacts and other items to unravel the past. Students will have a chance to play detective themselves by figuring out what a mystery artifact is.

What did kids do for fun before the internet and video games? You will find out in this interactive program. You will get a chance to learn about what children did to entertain themselves in the 19th century and then get a chance to try out some old-fashioned games and toys.

Share the experience with your child(ren) as we read a story, do a craft, have a treat and sing some songs. This is a great family program as well. The group must provide at least one adult for every 3 children.
