Every year
over 400 quilts are displayed full-length in Founder’s Hall in
one of several categories. This annual event is made possible by
quilters who are willing to submit their beautiful work for the
exhibit.
Karen Kay Buckley is an accomplished quilter, teacher, and author. She graduated from Lock Haven University (a Pennsylvania State Teachers College) with a bachelor’s degree in Education. With a scarcity of teaching positions in her area, she enrolled in a quilting class at a local high school, beginning her love of quilting.
Since that first class in 1982, she took additional classes to hone her skills, Four years later she opened The Country Quilt Shop in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a small shop devoted to quilting and quilting instruction, which enabled her to use her education background to develop classes. The business thrived, as she taught beginning through advanced classes and eventually began creating her own patterns.
In 1989, she sold the business to return to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. By that time, she had taught over 1,000 quilters, and she continued to devote her time to teaching, designing, and writing.
Karen’s books include From Basics to Binding: A Complete Guide to Making Quilts, Above and Beyond Basics, Love to Quilt: Bears, Bears, Bears, Applique Basics: Flower Wreaths, Earthy Delights: The Perfect Finish, and Japanese Garden Quilt. She was a contributing author to The Ultimate Visual Guild.
Widely published in quilting magazines, she has also self-published several patterns, and she developed the DVD “Hand and Machine Appliqué: The Karen Kay Buckley Way.”
With over 250 quilts to her credit, her work has received numerous awards including eight Best of Show awards. Voted teacher of the year by the Professional Quilter Magazine in 1997, her work has been featured in numerous magazines and calendars, including 13 cover quilts! One of her quilts was chosen by Senator Wofford’s wife to be placed on display in the U. S. Capitol in 1992, and another was chosen for the same display in 1993. Karen has appeared on Simply Quilts and the AQS show American Quilter. She continues and active schedule of teaching, judging and designing.

Judging &
Awards
NQA Certified Quilt Judges for the 2012 Show are Linda McCuean and Linda Luggen
Linda McCuean became a Certified Quilt Judge with the National Quilting Association in 2004. She is a professional longarm quilter, teacher, lecturer, and quilt maker. She began making quilts as a hand quilter in 1978 and began long arm quilting in 1998. Linda is highly awarded as a longarm machine quilter, giving her a unique perspective a s a quilt judge. She believes a good judge must be knowledgeable in all aspects of quilting—traditional and contemporary—and she constantly studies the latest techniques, striving to bring to the judging floor an extensive knowledge of design and workmanship, as well as her expertise as both a hand quilter and a longarm quilter. Linda’s work has been published in numerous books, magazines, and calendars. She has judged more than 30 quilt shows, most recently the Omaha Quilter’s Guild (Omaha, NE), Machine Quilter’s Exposition (Providence, RI), and Lake MetroFarmpark Show (Kirtland, OH). Linda is from New Galilee, PN.
Quiltmaker, quilt teacher, lecturer, designer and NQA Certified Judge, Linda Luggen has spent over thirty years sharing her knowledge of quilts and quiltmaking. She designs many of her own appliqué patterns. Her color sense and multi-layer techniques have led her to a new world of freedom in creative appliqué designs that she loves to share.
Her quilts have won awards nationally and have been published in Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilts and Great American Quilts. Her home and quilts were featured in Romantic Homes. Her article on judging was published in the NQA Quilting Quarterly and in the Vic Quilter (a Victoria, Australia quilt magazine). She has taught seminars and lectured nationally. At a Cincinnati Fall Flower Show at Coney Island she was the featured artist, displaying 20 quilts pertaining to flowers and nature.
She has served as Secretary, Vice-President and Program Coordinator, and President of the Ohio Valley Quilters Guild. She worked as co-facility coordinator for the Sew Near To My Heart Quilt Show in Cincinnati.
Linda is a National Quilting Association Certified Judge and has served as Nominating Committee Chairman and Chairman of the Midwest Judges Retreat.

the quilts will be done by category and completed by judges
before the show opens. Judges reserve the right to change a
