Family Picnics at Sauder Village Dates: February 8th and 22nd, 2011 Time: 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Founder's Hall
The public was invited to gather with others from the community to enjoy a warm atmosphere and hearty meal in the comfort of Founder’s Hall, and help raise funding support for important local non-profit organizations. The generous free-will donations for the meal allowed proceeds to be directed to the Sauder Village Annual Fund that supports the Historic Village, as well as the designated community partner for that evening. Carry-out was available.

Archbold Rotary Club "Water for Haiti" Project (February 8th, 2011) - The Archbold Rotary Club has undertaken the Haiti water project to install and maintain some 525 water purification filters that will provide safe, clean drinking water for about 30,000 Haitians in and around Port au Prince. Each filter purchased and installed for about $125 means 70 to 80 Haitians will have safe, clean drinking water. For more information on this project click here.
The Archbold Lions Club Eye Glass Program (February 22nd, 2011)- The Archbold Lions Club is raising support for their local eye sight project to assist needy families to purchase eye glasses, as part of the Lions Club International work to fight blindness. They provide several receptacles for unwanted eye glasses that are eventually recycled and distributed throughout the world, and will collect glasses during the picnic. The Toledo Symphony presented a spectacular performance in Founder’s Hall with Jeffrey Pollock as conductor and Michele Tosser-Smith as oboe soloist. The Black Swamp Arts Council joined Sauder Village to co-host this year’s performance. All seats were reserved and tickets were sold at the Sauder Village Welcome Center.

Each year the Sauder Village Quilt Show pays tribute to the fine craftsmanship of quilters from across the Midwest. During this 6-day show, more than 400 breath-taking quilts will be on full-length display, creating a kaleidoscope of color and pattern in Founder’s Hall. Guests will also enjoy special music, quilting demonstrations and shopping and will have an opportunity to meet and learn from special guest artist Nancy Prince from Orlando, FL.

Singer story teller Bob Ford is a Sauder Village favorite. Hailing from Cedarville Ohio, Bob is known throughout the region for weaving history and music together in a delightful engaging experience for all ages. He'll be back for Spring on the Farm for several concerts throughout the day that will have your toes tapping and your voices singing!

What better setting for an antique car display than Ohio’s largest living-history Village. Cars on display will be older than 1942 with some dating back to the early 1900s. This unique event will focus on the machines past and present that make farming possible. Modern machines as well as antique models will be on display. Guests will have a chance to actually get into tractors and see antique models right next to their modern cousins. Also this day, there will be lots of hands on activities such as butter churning, cream separating and special cooking demonstrations to focus on the importance of dairy farming in our early settlement.

Have you ever wondered how a sheep’s wool was transformed into your favorite
sweater or warm wooly mittens? Join us as artisans gather to demonstrate and
share their love of fiber arts. Many fiber arts groups will join Sauder
Village spinners and weavers in demonstrations on spinning and different
types of weaving, natural dyeing of fibers and other similar activities.
Guests will be able to watch spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting and
tatting demonstrations. There will be fiber exhibits, looms and spinning
wheels on display, hands-on activities and wool felting and dying

a U.S. District Court Naturalization Ceremony, the last step in
the process to become a new United States citizen, at 11:00 a.m. on the Village Green

fun-filled day allows guests to experience life on a farm more than 100 year

The aroma of apples and spices mixed with wood fires and falling leaves
signals a change of season and apple butter making at Sauder Village. For the
35th consecutive year, guests can watch as we boil the cider down, add the
thinly sliced apples and then cook the homemade apple butter in copper
kettles over an open fire. There will be cider pressing and other
apple-themed activities as well as homemade apple dumplings, pies and other

Family fun awaits visitors young and old as Sauder Village celebrates Fall on the Farm! Take a step back in time and help prepare the farm for the winter ahead. Try making noodles, butter and cornhusk dolls, decorating pumpkins, pressing apples for cider, exploring a straw maze and harvesting sunflower seeds. There are special activities for all ages to enjoy at Fall on the Farm. Based on century old liturgy, a Harvest Home Service will be recreated in St. Mark’s Church with short services throughout the day.

25th Annual Woodcarvers’ Show & Sale

The annual Woodcarver’s Show & Sale is a special weekend filled with unique artistry and family fun. Founder’s Hall will feature skilled carvers showcasing handcrafted wildlife, fish, caricatures, pins and pens. Special guest carver Don Mertz will be demonstrating and teaching a workshop. There will be vendor tables with carving supplies, woodcarving demonstrations and lively music by the Wes Linenkugal group. Details about the Woodcarver's Show & Sale and workshops.
On Saturday only in the Historic Village we will be demonstrating how the early settlers prepared for winter with hog butchering and other food preservation demonstrations. In the afternoon, guests of all ages can participate in our popular corn husking contest.

Come experience a turn-of-the-century Christmas at Sauder Village! The flicker of a candle-lit lantern will light the way as our costumed guide takes small groups on a journey to meet historical characters in the 1910 Homestead, the District 16 Schoolhouse, St. Mark’s Church and the Elmira Depot. Guests will be invited to experience the holiday customs and celebrations of the 1900s and hear stories about Christmas’ past and the history of Northwest Ohio. At the church, all will join in a hymn sing and receive a special gift appropriate to the late 1800s. We hope you will join us for this special holiday experience at Sauder Village. Pre-registration
