  Anne ColemanFeaturing special guest artist Anne Coleman

Join us for this wonderful opportunity to learn from one of the nation’s top basket artists and teachers, Anne Coleman.

Anne Coleman is a professional artist who has been creating, teaching and designing three dimensional fiber art for over twenty-seven years.  She has been invited to teach her unusual designs at seminars and conventions throughout the U.S.  Anne combines many mediums with weaving and uses techniques developed from painting, pottery making and tack and harness design to create an unique life’s work.

You’ll have your choice of several of Anne’s unique designs to create.  Friday’s choices will take about 4 hours and Saturday’s about 8. 

Hours:
Friday, June 24, Arrival between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. weaving until 9:00
Saturday, June 25, Arrival between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. weaving until 7:00

Cost: 
Friday – $57/$52 member includes supplies
Saturday – prices range from $65-$105/ and $59/$99 depending on basket selected.

All of Friday's basket choices are open to all skill levels.  For Saturday's basket choices, beginner weavers should select either the Appalachian Ribbed Basket or the Shoulder Bag.  All other Saturday baskets are for intermediate or advanced weavers

Friday June 24th Workshops

Saddle Shoulder Bag
SADDLEBAG.... woven with wide reed in a herringbone pattern for strength and flexibility.  The harness quality leather handle is rolled and stitched.  Anne's unusual coloring and finishing techniques will be discussed in class.
Pegasus Market Basket
PEGASUS MARKET BASKET....this is a large rectangular basket made on a tall oak handle woven continuously with a wooden fretwork Pegasus on both sides.
Friendship Basket
FRIENDSHIP BASKET....made on a 12'' wide tall oak handle woven continuously with permanently colored reed.  The colored rim is optional and requires more time.
Three Corner Colonial
THREE CORNER COLONIAL...this is made in the Nantucket style with graduating sizes of cane working from a triangular oak bottom.  The handle is hand whittled and the front of the basket is adorned with wooden fretwork colonial horses.
Pegasus Nantucket Basket
PEGASUS NANTUCKET...this is made in the Nantucket style with graduating sizes of cane with a wooden bottom attached to an improvised mold.  The handle is hand whittled and it is adorned with a wooden fretwork Pegasus.
Porcelain Pedestal Nantucket Basket
PORCELAIN PEDESTAL NANTUCKET... this starts from a round wooden bottom permanently attached to a glazed kiln fired pedestal.  Weaving is done in the Nantucket style with graduating sizes of cane over an improvised mold.
(those participating need to bring an empty 16 ounce Cool-Whip container)

 

Saturday June 25th Workshops

Appalachian Lidded Basket
APPALACHIAN LIDDED BASKET...this is a very large basket with a 20'' tall oak handle.  The lid will fit.  The spokes of the lid radiate out from an oak disk and the knob for lid is porcelain.
Shoulder Bag Selection
SHOULDER BAG SELECTION...this is easy weaving.  All are woven with wide reed.  Pictorial pattern and color are optional.  Participants choose size, shape, and handle style.
Nantucket Purse Design
NANTUCKET PURSE DESIGN WORKSHOP... Anne will have a choice of oval mold sizes and handle styles.  Participants can choose depth, size, weaving pattern, and handle.
Traditional Appalachian Ribbed Basket
TRADITIONAL APPALACHIAN RIBBED BASKET...this starts with an assembled oak frame and the ribbed skeleton complete.  Participants can weave easily and practice Anne's easy method of 'turning back'.  Decorative weaving around the frame is optional and can be done in class if time allows.  Pictured is the 12'' hoop size.  Hoops for the class will be larger. 
Apple Basket
APPLE BASKET... this traditional basket will be between 3/4 and one bushel in size.  It is made with double spoke construction and the handles are on the side in oak or ash.
Square Bottom Basket with Vertical Herringbone Braid
A SQUARE BOTTOM BASKET WITH A VERTICAL HERRINGBONE BRAID...the name is the description.  The handle is a 20'' tall and in oak.  Weaving is continuous and the braiding is done in cane.  Handle braiding is optional.  Anne's vertical herringbone braid is unique as is leaves no loose ends on the inside of the basket.
